About Grills and How to Clean Gas Grills

Author: David H. Urmann

Grills are great kitchen equipment for cooking barbecues. It comes in a variety of sizes, shapes and designs.

There are several varieties of grills categorized into two such as gas-fueled grills and charcoal grills. There is a great discussion over the qualities of gas and charcoal for use as a cooking method between grills. The electric indoor grill is also becoming very popular in the industry of cooking.

Grilling is a persistent tradition in the US. There are several cook-offs for barbeque and steak grilling in the US, even with a cash prize involved. Almost all contest grillers use charcoal, especially in steel grills or custom design bricks.

Infrared grills work by igniting the natural gas or propane to a superheat ceramic tile, causing it to produce infrared radiation that cooks food. Infrared cooking varies other forms of grilling that uses hot air in order to cook the food.

Charcoal grills utilize either all natural lump charcoals or charcoal briquets as their source of fuel. Users of charcoal briquets stress the consistency in quality exemplified, heat creation, burn rate and size by briquets. The user of the lump charcoal emphasizes the consistency in high heat production, subtle smoky aromas and lack of fillers and binders present in briquets.

Gas fueled grills usually use natural gas or propane as their source of fuel with gas-flame either by heating grilling elements or by cooking food directly, that in turn radiates the heat essential to cooking food. These gas grills are obtainable in sizes that range from large, single steak grill types to industrial-sized restaurant grill varieties that are capable of cooking meat in order to feed more people.

Most of the gas grills follow the design concepts of cart grills. There are other popular types also. One of them is the flattop grill. The BRMGG or Brazilian Radizio Machine Gas Grill is a durable spitroast machine suitable for making a Brazilian Rodizio. The Brazilian Rodizio Machine Gas Grill runs having top radiant gas burners that roast meat in rotating spits. All types of gas grills are required to be maintained and cleaned if you want to safely cook delicious barbecues.

Here are some tips to clean the gas grills with materials you have in the house:

Before you start to clean your gas grills, ensure the total disconnection of the natural gas or propane gas tank and the controls in the off position. For complete safety, completely remove either the natural gas or propane gas tank.
Use water and soap as they are still the best cleaning solutions. Use the usual soap dishwashing liquid that is designed for cutting grease and combine it with hot water or warm water in the large bucket or container.

Remove the grill rack from the gas grill and put it directly in the soapy water. Leave the grill rack and soak it for about 30 minutes or more depending on how much grease are built in grilling racks. There are other options to remove grease in the grill racks, put the drip guard right with the grill racks in the container to eliminate the build-up of grease. Remove the remaining particles inside the grill by using wet-dry vacuums via hand-held tools.

Rinse off any excess soap after the drip guard and grill rack have finished soaking and put them back inside the grill. If baked-on grease is not removed, use the grill cleaning brush to remove any remaining residue. Do not use the metal grill cleaning brush on porcelain grills because it will cause damage.

The Origin of the Barbecue

Author: ed skew

A barbecue (or barbeque, that’s up to you!) is a simple piece of equipment for cooking food with the heat and hot gas of a fire, smoking wood or hot coals of charcoal. You would usually have a charcoal barbecue or gas barbecue.

Apparently, most people believe the barbecue come from the Caribbean where the food was either put on a platform above the fire and resting on sticks, or placed in a hole dug in the ground and then covered.

Barbecuing is widespread throughout the world from The United Kingdom to Korea and the United States of America and has various regional variations. It actually tends to be a social event when friends gather and have fun. There is actually a world championship barbecue cooking contest taking place in Memphis in the United States of America every year in May.

Cooking meat, fish, vegetables or anything else on a barbecue is more of an outdoor activity as a barbecue would usually create a lot of smoke depending on who is cooking and with what. When cooking food on a barbecue, you should be aware that whether you use wood, charcoal or gas, your food will taste differently.

Actually more and more people are buying gas barbecues. As gas barbecues involve the latest technologies such as side burners for sauces for examples, are much easier to clean and use, they are becoming very popular, which is creating a real debate over which kind of barbecue is the best?

Apart form that, you can now find very useful BBQ tools that will be greatly helpful for cooking without burning your hands every time you try to turn a piece of meat and so making a barbecue an even more attractive outdoor activity.

You would still have to be careful when cooking food on a barbecue though! People tend to forget that not properly cooked food can get you into trouble as you could have eaten bacteria. So do not forget to make sure you cook your meat properly, wash your hands and the different surfaces really often… Basically, be careful when you cook food on a barbecue and make sure you think about doing it the clean and safe way.

Another interesting debate is to know who is usually controlling the barbecue between men and women? And according to some psychologists, men would tend more to want to control the barbecue as it would allow them to play legally with fire. All this going back to prehistoric times where the fire was such a vital resource.

Healthy Thoughts

Author: James Mawhinney

I am sitting here at work thinking about surviving the recession. One thing for certain is that I won't be going out to eat all the time. And to reduce getting destroyed by the stress of cash flow problems I want to eat healthy and avoid adding to problems with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. While both of these have hereditary tendencies, they also are of course affected by what we put in our mouths and a reasonable aerobic exercise plan. We can't control our genes, but we can do a great deal to allow our bodies to fight the odds and stay healthy in this high stress at times frustrating world.

We are not herbivores and I am not an advocate by any means of vegetarian diets. We digest vegetables horribly. However we as a species are omnivores, which means we by our structure and digestive system from our teeth to our anus so to speak are made to eat a balanced variety of food types. We do not have a four chamber stomach like ruminants (cows, sheep, goats...); nor do we have a 7 foot long cecum like the horse and other related animals with hooves animals. Our stomach and upper intestine is perfect for digesting meats and not too efficient in breaking down fiber. Our cecum is inches long not 7 feet and our stomach relies on stomach acid and then upper intestinal pancreatic enzymes process the breaking down nutrients. A ruminant animal regurgitates the fibrous products multiple times and re chews and swallows the food again and again to help in a fermentation process which breaks down the fiber into useable nutrients. Most of our fiber comes out our anus intact. We need fibrous foods and vegetables to balance our vitamins and carbohydrate needs to round out our balanced diet.

The only foods containing all or most of our essential amino acids needed to build body proteins are meats (beef, pork, chicken, fish, lamb etc. Yes all of these are meats from the animal kingdom). Egg is the most complete of them all. To balance the amino acids with vegetable only diets are difficult and cumbersome. Beans, like soy, pinto and black beans have many but not all of the essential amino acids. We need a good balance of salads, vegetables, some starches, and good quality lean meats. We should cook low fat with waterless cookware, reduced fat cooking, broiling either on a grill or in oven, roasting if on a rack etc and always trim the fat before cooking. We don't need 24 oz cuts of meat to satisfy our needs but more like 6-10 oz, balanced with lots of salads, veggies and fruits. Cook with quality multi-element stainless steel cookware the best being waterless steam control, and use good quality stainless steel cutlery and life will be easier. So get out your silverware, set the table and enjoy a great, Home cooked meal.
Have fun.

Author: Phillip Fuller

When it comes to showing appreciation towards parents, fathers tend to get the shaft. Everyone loves the mothers, but it’s the fathers that get overlooked on this special day of appreciation. Instead of going with the classic coffee mug or tie, dig deeper and give your father something he’ll never forget on Father’s Day. Here are 5 Father’s Day give ideas.

1. Tickets to a sporting event

What dad doesn’t enjoy sports, and there is no better way to enjoy the game then seeing it first-hand. It doesn’t matter if its basketball, baseball, golf or Nascar, just get him tickets to an event that he’ll enjoy. If you pitch with a sibling, maybe get a couple tickets so he can enjoy the game with a buddy of his.

2. Grooming kit

Technology continues to bring more developed items to choose from. Although your father probably already has a razor and shaving cream, get him an entire grooming kit for Father’s Day. There are a number of kits on the market to choose from, and each kit differs in what it offers. Some things you may find include facial cleanser, pre-shave oil, shaving cream, after shave balm and a razor.

3. Barbecue tool set

There is something about barbecuing that brings a sense of relaxation and enjoyment for many fathers. What better way to continue this satisfaction than by giving him this Father’s Day gift idea. As with the grooming kit, there are a plethora of sets to choose from with a wide price range to select from. A traditional set will include tongs, spatula, marinating brush, grill cleaning brush and much more.

4. Business attire

If your father is a businessman, he can never have too many nice clothes for work. It may be a little out of your price range to get him a suit for Father’s Day because of the high price range. But you can still get him a new pair of dress shoes, some dress socks or a couple of nice collared shirts.

5. Outdoor activities

If your father enjoys the outdoors, giving him some outdoor activity is the best Father’s Day gift idea there is. Give him a new fishing pole or a new mountain bike to ride through the mountains on. Giving him something he will use and enjoy is much better than giving him yet another coffee mug to stick in the counter.

Father’s Day is the one day that you can truly show your father how much he means to you. There are hundreds of Father’s Day gift ideas to choose from, but no one knows him as good as you. Take the time to find a gift that truly matters and show your father how much he means to you.

Propane Gas Products

Author: Florence Gasket

The versatility of Propane gas means it can serve a lot of purposes in many fields, especially in residences. There is a large variety of different propane gas based products, which are used in homes, and they make life more convenient. These products are not only cost effective but also efficient and innovative and are designed to offer complete consumer satisfaction through continuous improvements. There are many companies that sell propane gas products and equipment. Besides the products, they also offer useful advice and consultation. Whenever you purchase a propane based product, it is important to get complete guidelines from the company along with any safety tips and assistance in installation if required.

Now there are so many companies offering innovative products, it has resulted in a lot of competition among these companies, which in turn benefits the customers because they not only have a lot more choice but there is continuous improvement, and the prices are much more reasonable than what they used to be in the past.

The propane gas products range from commercial to residential use to better suit the usage scale and the nature of the use. Some of the propane products are fireplaces, portable heaters, fireplace inserts, lights and mantels, refrigerators, greenhouse propane heaters, weed burners, grills, thermostats, stoves, barbecue accessories and many others. The fittings for the products come with them, and you can get replacement items for your propane products from the same company. Another alternative is to get the repair equipment and fittings from a company which specialises in the equipment.

The variety of products available is very wide, and you can choose the one that best suits your needs. There are products which can be fitted permanently, while there are also products which are portable.

Greenhouse propane gas heaters are one item that is gaining a lot of popularity because of their convenience, plus their useful and reliable service. These heaters serve two important purposes. Firstly they radiate heat in greenhouses, which are moist. Secondly, during their burning process, they produce carbon dioxide which enhances and enriches the growth of the plants. The operation of these heaters is reliable and safe for using in a greenhouse. These heaters mostly have sensors and thermostat controllers. The controllers perform the function of turning down the pilot when the heat rises above the specified level. The sensors serve the purpose of cutting the gas in case the flame goes out. Most of the propane based fireplaces have a programmable thermostat and they can be operated with a remote control.

One thing that makes propane products like heaters and grills popular and somewhat a necessity is that they can be carried anywhere and are safe and reliable.

There are some products amongst the above mentioned ones that require installation and maintenance, which can be done by professionals. In such cases, the respective company should be contacted because there might be safety issues. All the products should be maintained so that you can get maximum convenience and use out of the product.
